The adult education programme with self motivation of the teachers and students group of The dissolved Karnataka state adult education committee of mysore with the intention of literacy publicity, started in the year 1940. In the year 1941, the akshara prachara commitee took its birth and kanva of Kannada B.M.Shree became the chairman of it. After this, the committee conducted some programmes like publishing publishing of neo-literacy literature, starting Libraries at rural areas, founding vidya peethas, reinforcement of folk arts-dance, audio visual programmes, and research programmes. The government has started to grant Rs.5500/- in 1941-42. The committee has founded vidyapeethas applying the aims and objectives of Denmark folk high schools which are adjustable to Indian gurukula system of Education.
As the vidyapeethas plan was unique, they have been considered as social, econonomical, and cultural welfare centres of rural areas.
In the field of literacy programmes the committee was recognized as one of the guiding institution in India and abroad. It is also recognized by the UNESCO MELUM PORK SUMWORK and other organizations and received national and international literacy awards. This committee has implemented 4 rural active literacy schemes and 27 programmes in the state. The 16 vidyapeethas and their movable and immovable assets which are under control of the committee have been handed over to Loka Shkishana Directorate and the Director has been made as controlling officer for the same. The District Adult education officers are superwising these vidyapeethas.

The dissolved Karnataka state adult education committee of Mysore with the intention of literacy publicity, started in the year 1940. The committee by conducting some programmes like starting Libraries at rural areas, founding vidya peethas, reinforcement of folk arts and earned good name at national and international level.
The dissolved committee is having its own employees and the Governament sanctioned grant in aid code and frame the rules and regulations pertaining to the appointments. The Governament has sanctioned 359 posts, out of these there are 197 vacancies which includes cancelled by the Governament and retired/death vacancies. Presently 135 persons are working.The committee consists of 16 vidyapeethas and 709 acres of land of its own. In this land apart from agricultural crops, long term crops like coconuts, supari, sapota,jackfruit, lemon, godambi, supari, mango have been grown. The 13 vidyapeethas among these have their own buildings, irrigation facilities etc., Resources.
In Mysore there is a printing press which consists of one ofset printing machine, one idleburg printing machine , cutting machine. The inititativeness has been taken to restart this. It is intended to print literacy materials such as posters, learning materials, text books, teaching materials and printing works of state Govrernament by using these printing machines.
As the committee has failed in implementing aims and objectives for various reasons on the basis of the reports submitted by the deputy commissioner of Mysore and the district registrar, with the recommendations by the divisional commissioner of Mysore and the chairman, the Governament verified the report and through its order no. ED 03 ESW 2001 dated 02.11.2001 has dissolved the committee and the movable and immovable properties of this committte along with the staff have been handed over to the Directorate nof Mass education. There were 174 employees were working.
In between this a writ petition no.1251/2002 was made against to the government order dated 02-11-2001,and the court in its order dated 02-09-2005 has issued a notice asking the explination from the persons concerned ,given sufficient time to answer. After getting explination the court ordered to take action as per the rules. As per the court order action is being taken at the government level.
The Directorate of mass education has reinforced the activities of after taking the committee into its hand and formed high level officers committee at the state level. This committee has submitted its report to the Governament. Apart from this the evaluation report of vidyapeethas submitted by the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore as per the resolution of M.M.R meeting has been submitted to the Governament.
As per the government order no.ED 51 ESW division dated 05-02-2002 it is ordered that the overall income/amount earned by the vidyapeethas to be remitted to governaments head of account and the amount has been credited to the head of account . As the government has not sanctioned any grants for the maintainance of crops and for the developmental works of the vidyapeethas(scarcity of water, fertilizers, pesticides) the production has come down. Hence a request letter has been sent to the Governament, to utilize 50% 0f the income for the development of vidyapeethas by the committee
As per the government order no. ED 27 ESW 94 dated 22-10-94, while sanctioning the grants to the committee the 77 vacant psts have been abolished and put condition not to fill the vancies which may be created in in the future. To fallow up the order It has become the problem to appoint eligible staff in the vdyapeethas as the number of employees are retiring . There are examples that the staff appointed in the committee are retiring in the same pst in which they are appointed after completing 30 to 35 years of their service, and they have lost the opportunity to get promotions. Hence the action may be taken to recruit and promote the staff as per the grant in code, sanctioned posts , recruitment rules framed for the committee, by liberalizing the governament order.
Recommendation is made to the government to appoint the nearest kins of the 13 persons working in the committee, who died while in service of the committee on compassionate grounds. The action has to be at the government level (annexure-10)
Before dissolvement of the committee therewere 64 cases registered , among them 57 cases have been disposed. Regarding the balance of o7 cases the necessary action will be taken.

To provide the knowledge and skill to become leadership of the rural areas to serve for the society.
Aim
It is the main aim of of the vidyapeethas is to improve the efficiency of the workers, good citizens and to develop technical skills in the systematic way. It is also aimed to conduct programmes of literacy etc.,for the welfare of the children living in the slum areas, orphans,children of labours.
