KSLMA have autonomous status and this is established by Govt. of Karnataka for implementation of literacy programs across the state since 18.03.1995. Directorate of Mass Education is acting as secretariat of KSLMA and Director of Mass Education is the member secretary for KSLMA.

 

• Provide Basic literacy and facilitate education to all illiterates, neo-literates and school dropouts of karnatka state.
• Impliment KSLMA and Literacy programs in karnatka
• Establish efficient working group at district and enhance the capabilities of district literacy committees and decenterlise the powers for literacy programs at gross root level.
• Encourage the involvement of state literacy research centers, NGOs and individual personalities in eradication illiteratism .
• Create new initiatives for improve life style for weaker sections of the society.
• Create  self reliant programs for neo-literates. 
• Create an opportunity for research and study  facility in the area of atult education.
• Publish and prepare a academic materials of literacy programs.
• Establish Open School under National open School.
